In today's news Alfonso Soriano signed a 8 year $136 million deal with the Chicago Cubs. Not only did the Nationals fail to re-sign their key free agent, they got nothing back for losing a perennial all-star. Earlier this summer, they had the opportunity to trade him and get some quality prospects. Instead, they did not trade him and let him go for nothing.
This continues a long tradition of DC's sport franchises commitment to mediocrity. The most pride you can take in DC teams is pride in former players who went on to greatness elsewhere. No DC team has won a championship in DC since 91. That is why I can't be a fan of my hometown's teams. If ownership can't be committed to winning I can't be committed to them.
